Aurora, CO – Swimming Facilities Closing for the Season

Summertime is sadly coming to a close and kids are heading back to school.  This means that many of the City of Aurora swimming facilities will soon be closing for the season and won’t open again until next year.  Here is a list of scheduled closures.

Aqua Vista and Pheasant Run pools – August 17

Meadow Hills pool – August 17

Del Mar Water Playground – Weekends only until Sept 1

Aurora Reservoir Swim Beach – September 18

Great Plains Park and Red-Tailed Hawk Spraygrounds – open until early October

So if you haven’t had a chance to get out and enjoy some pool time, there’s no time to waste.

Chemical Roundup Volunteers Needed at the City of Aurora

Chemical Roundup Volunteers Needed at the City of Aurora

paintThe City of Aurora is hosting a chemical roundup for its residents.  They are accepting paint, automotive fluids, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaners, mercury, vehicle batteries, household batteries, tires ($3 each), light bulbs and fluorescent lights. 

Volunteers are needed to help register participants, unload vehicles, direct traffic and staff collection stations.  All volunteers must be at least 15 years old.

This even will be held September 14th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Aurora Central Facility, 13645 E. Ellsworth Ave.

refrigeratorReliable Appliance accepts these tired old discards at no charge for City of Aurora residents.  They are located at 988 Dayton St., and can be reached at 303-344-4014.  Please call first to confirm available drop off times. 

They won’t pick up your appliances, but they will accept them.

So don’t turn your garage into an appliance graveyard, call Reliable Appliance.

Mark these dates in your calendar and load up the truck with all your old computer STUFF!

September 9, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm – Central Facilities Recycling Center, 13646 E. Ellsworth Ave.

October 11, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm – Tallyn’s Reach Library parking lot, 23911 E Arapahoe Rd

There is a cost to dispose of these items but its very affordable. 

Most items are only $2.00 each, televisions $15, computer monitors $10 and mice, cables and cell phones are free.

christmas treeOk – Its only August!  But, Christmas will be here before we know it.  Did you know there are only 20 Fridays until Christmas!!!!

When the time comes, you will be happy to know about a place to take your Christmas tree to be recycled. 

December 28 thru January 12th, the City of Aurora is offering free Christmas tree recycling.  Here are the locations where you can take your less than festive tree when the time comes to turn it into mulch:

Del Mar Park – Sixth and Peoria
Olympic Park – 15501 E. Yale Ave
Saddle Rock Golf Course – 21705 E Arapahoe Rd.

So once you take down the lights and remove the angel from the top, load up that tree and turn it back into something good for the earth.
